The man she loved for forty years died with no warning.
Reeling from the shock of finding his body, Fran Rybarik never imagined the unusual path her life would take, starting with her sons’ belief that their dad’s adventures weren’t over.
Ten years, 41,000 miles and 27 film canisters of David’s ashes later, she chronicles the effects of her husband’s post-life travels with an ever-growing community of family and friends. As David’s adventures continue, Fran learns to remember him with joy, and eventually she begins to pursue her own pilgrimages.
This is not a “how to grieve in a year” book, but rather an inspirational story of loss without letting go. Using snippets of grief theory from her bereavement background, along with poetry, honesty and humor, Fran weaves her parallel journey of healing within the stories of Travels with David.
Travels with David edition by Fran Rybarik Health Fitness Dieting eBooks
The author invites us on her journey of healing from the sudden, unexpected death of her husband, David. Uncertain about what to do with the box of cremated remains and without advance directions from him, Fran and her sons dole out David's ashes in small film canisters and carry them to disperse in familiar places as well as locales on his bucket list. Friends join the effort and ultimately David's ashes travel worldwide. The author is a bereavement counselor but this is not a "how to book " nor a maudlin postmortem. It is beautiful. I was tearful because she writes about her particular experience of grief with an authenticity that speaks a universal truth about love and loss...and moving on.Product details

Travels with David edition by Fran Rybarik Health Fitness Dieting eBooks Reviews
Very stirring book with real life possibilities even in death. Takes you on a journey with the author.
Interspersed with her own tender poems, Fran gives a warm and endearing account of the tragic loss of her husband David and how she and her sons decided to celebrate David's life. A great twenty first century lesson on moving through grief with a community of family, friends and the professionals needed.
The story line is well written, it makes you want to keep reading to the next chapter. You feel like you are a part of their lives as the words are real and the emotions are strong. The story tells about the life that they built and lived together. What was surprising was the circle of close friends that she had and yet she kept so much emotion from them. It's a must read!!
Excellent reading for a spouse, family, relatives and friends that have lost a loved one.
Fran has spent her life/career as a mother of two sons and a RN nurse educator.
Her work is published in regional magazines, newsletters and health education materials.
She continues to travel with my brother as life goes on.

Fran Rybarik has written a very good book and certainly so being that it is her first! I really enjoyed the method she writes in and how she interjects her thoughts. It was very refreshing, even though I had to wipe back tears at times.... The final passages were right on with David's personality and I especially appreciated her honesty on how their relationship could be testing at times, like all relationships, yet Fran gives it head on. This book has helped me to appreciate the tough times along with the very good times in life. I am thankful for the inspiration, and hope that Fran keeps writing and enjoying new adventures. She really shares her heart in this book.
This is a beautifully written book for anyone suffering a loss. It is a story of hope. As a former bereavement specialist, Rybarik contrasts the experts’ stages of grief to the personal experience of sudden loss. Despite her nurse’s training she is swiftly thrown into the position of a recipient of grief counseling rather than the provider. In her writing, readers find unique answers to common questions following loss How will he be remembered? Did he make a difference? Does anybody care? For David (and for Fran) the questions are clearly answered through the 10 years of adventures since David’s death, provided by family and friends. Although it is clear, everyone grieves differently, Fran’s heartfelt, honest account of David’s life after death is uplifting and a source of inspiration. As a widow, Rybarik found a life alone can be full despite the rugged path, and for her, achieved through her dogged capacity to reach out and plan for better days.
This book is a wonderful tribute to a great husband from the wife who loves him immensely. I see myself in David as I, too, am into cars and also keep a journal. It was what the author found in David's journal that makes this book an enjoyable and uplifting read. It is very well written and will hold your interest cover to cover. The book showed me how precious life is and to make each day count, especially with those you love, because it can change in an instant. How Ms. Rybarik copes with her loss in such a unique way makes this book very special.
